Pak n Save
The Richmond Mall Extension contract brief noted requirement for the Main Contractor to keep Nelson’s largest retail shopping centre operational and unaffected by construction activity for the contract duration. The anchor tenant, Pak n Save also required the contractor to maintain their continual access into the market from the carpark for the duration of the construction period to ensure trading levels were maintained.
Managing this request required some innovative planning from the contractor to manage the health and safety for the general public, retailers and employees accessing the market space through the middle of the construction site. Coman Construction has successfully managed this aspect during a substantial demolition, extension and rebuild phase by designing and implementing various engineered safe paths consisting of container walkways, full height (weather and dust proof) temporary walling and temporary propping applications.
